Two school years ago, I changed my girls school to a charter school. Academically, this was such a great move as they are both constantly "Student of the Month" and not nearly as many issues that I have encountered in the public school system.
I guess I spoke to soon....................
Tuesday, I get a phone call from my oldest daughter asking when was I going to pick her up from school.
Me: Ummm why are you not on the bus?
My Daughter: My teacher said you called and said you were coming up here so don't get on the bus.
Me: I never called your school, where is your little sister?
My Daughter: They let her get on the bus.
Now my blood pressure is up and I am about to hurt someone. So this school kept my 11 yr old but let me 7 yr old get on the bus. What kind of sense does that make?
Me: put your teacher on the phone
6th grade teacher: Hi Miss Johnston, are you on your way because we may have to charge you for after school care.
Me: (yelling) Girl, I did not call that school and tell anyone that I was coming to pick her up. You, or one of your little co-workers need to get in your car and drive her home!
6 grade teacher: um hold'on ma'am
Principal: Miss Johnston I apologize, I would never ask a teach-
Me: (cutting her off) I don't care who you ask what, my daughter needs to be at this house by the time the school bus drops of my youngest daughter.
Principal: oh, oh, ok. If I have your verbal permission, I will drop her off myself.
My youngest daughter get's home and she is crying and upset because she didn't know where her sister was and why she wasn't on the bus. She thought the bus left her.
The next day, I go up to the school and met with both teachers, the receptionist and the principal.
Me: Who told my daughter to stay at school?
6th grade teacher: Well you have to ask the receptionist.
Me: No, Im asking you, aren't you her teacher?
6th grade teacher: (shaking) I am but I got the message over the message from the receptionist.
Receptionist: I gave her the name but she miss understood what I said.
Me: Did you bother to clarify?
Receptionist: No, she said ok so I figured she got it.
As black as I am, my face is no red. In my mind I am wondering who the hell to slap first.
Principal: We apologize for the mix up, a parent called for the their child and we got the names mixed up. Because of this error, we no have in place to write the child's name down and walk the paper to the teacher instead of advising via intercom.
Me: So the child that was supposed to stay in school, got on the bus anyway?
Principal: Well (pause) yes.
There was more to the meeting but that was the just of it. I managed to stay out of jail. Which is good because I wouldn't make it in jail anyway.
When I got to work, I emailed what I took from the conversation to the Principal, both teachers, receptionist, AND the Superintendent. Attached was a copy of the police report I filed for negligence on the school. I did it so they would see how serious I was, in addition to letting the Superintendent know what was going on.
I'm honestly not sure what I am going to do next. I can't keep switching schools but I am so uneasy about this situation. Hopefully they have learned, not to make mistakes like that and there will not be any issues this school year. I really hate to be "that parent" but that's what happens with you "eff" with my kids!

Held Hostage by Technology
I am feeling uneasy and frustrated because I feel like technology has taken over my life.
I vary rarely make New Year's resolutions but for 2010 I was "supposed" to start contacting my friends and family more via telephone. Lets just say at 2 months before the year is out, I have yet to complete this task.
Well, let me back track a little. I am always available to take calls, emails, and text messages. However, when I used to call people all of the time, they don't answer or they don't return calls. So, I decided to stop making outbound calls.
As funny as it may sound, I am still always available. Constantly replying to email, text, instant messages, and facebook email, sleeping with my phone and waking up in the morning checking missed email and text. I am at the point now, where I will let a call go to vm then reply via text or shoot them an email.
I am finding that I am starting to misread text and email because I am not sure of the tone. At some points during the day, I can't stand the sound of my Blackberry vibrating. I try to turn my phone off to chill, but habit makes me turn it back on. UGH!!!
As I type this message I realize some of my friends and family are just like me. I get tons of text, emails and facebook messages from them. I do have others that call me every day at the same time on the on the dot. Sometimes to talk about nothing ... lol
Eventually, I will divorce technology and make some phone calls. Until then email me....lol
Question: Are you held hostage by technology?

30 Things Every Woman Should Have Before She Turns 30
A close friend of mine shared this list with me last year, right before my 30th birthday in February 2010. I found this list to be very interested and was honestly relieved that I covered the majority of this list. Are you 30 or approaching 30? Here are some of the items to be checked off:
1. Clothes that fit the size she is now, not the size she was five years ago
2. A weekly income that covers the rent (or mortgage payment)
3. An orgasm
4. Always enough toilet paper
5. A hair stylist she trusts
6. A favorite song, porn site, image, movie or fantasy that always gets her in the mood
7. Health insurance
8. A signature drink
9. A healthy relationship with her parents
10. Bras in the correct size
11. Enough alcohol in her home to offer drop-by guests a cocktail
12. An emergency hangover remedy
13. A voter registration card
14. A wardrobe that includes the perfectly flattering little black dress, a great pair of heels, jeans that make her ass look great, and a cute hat that hides a bad hair day
15. A yearly appointment with her gynecologist
16. The name of reliable movers to give her friends when they ask for help relocating
17. The gumption to ask a man out
18. A group of girlfriends who get it
19. A set of tools (and the ability to use them ... even if it’s just to hang a piece of art)
20. A balanced checkbook
21. No interest in men who just aren’t that into her
22. A vacation to look forward to at least once a year
23. A good bullshit detector
24. The courage to stand up for herself and her beliefs
25. A favorite sex position

It is now 8 months since I have turned 30 and I am still working on # 22, 28 and I am not interested in #30 though I know some who are.

The Things People Say.....
Sometimes I think to myself as people are talking, wondering "Are you even listening to yourself." I may not be the brightest crayon in the box but I damn sure know how to think before I speak.
Last weekend I went to the Premier Beauty Classic in Columbus Ohio. I imagined it to be like the Bronner Brother's show in ATL......emmm NOT! Nothing like it or nothing for "us" for a lack of better words.
Anyway, myself and two friends were walking the showrrom floor passing up all of the vendors , bc they are selling nothing for "our" hair, and this guy from a nail art company calls us over. He gives a short demo of how his nail art pens work blah blah blah. So since I never heard of him, business mode kicks in and I start talking about advertising in the mag and I give him my card. He says "Honey, all I am going to do is throw this card out. I don't need advertisement, they begged me to be here! Maybe you should try them over there, they need help." Hmmmmm as he is talking I am thinking " oh, they begged you huh, well that explains why your little ass booth is waaaaay in the back." However, since I am representing a company I graciously took my card and walked away. We get to the other side and GUESS WHAT! The people who "needed" me just happen to be African American...how ironic!

Word!?!
Last week I was talking to a co-worker about M.U.S.O Mag and she said "oh, I didnt get a chance to look at it yet, I will do it this weekend."
This weekend comes....I said " Have you looked at it yet".. she says "no not yet." I said "oh ok, no rush, I have some cleaning up to do on the site bc I accidentally published early and it looks a mess." She said "for real, lemme go look now!"...............HUH?
So you couldn't go look when I told you how good it was but you are rushing to go see how messed up it is? (Shaking My Head) The things people say!

Lesson learned:
Never give up on you! People will say things without thinking. These things can easily discourage you from persuing your goal. Don't let them!!! I have heard "Your doing too much", "I only read the first issue" "You need to change this" and many more, but I have also heard "I am proud of you" and" I love what your doing"; the things I say to myself as the negativity flows out of people mouth.
As long as I have my kids, my mother, my man and God in my corner, I will continue to P.U.S.H!
